smcphil

Talented music students from St Mary’s College in Crosby take to the stage
at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall later at the end of next month (March).

For the 12th year in a row, the school is mounting a showcase of the musical
skills of its pupils at the famous venue at 7.30pm on Friday March 26th.

In total more than 150 students will perform at the event which will be
compered by Liverpool actress Cathy Tyson, star of film and TV successes
like Mona Lisa, Band of Gold, Emmerdale and Holby City.

The concert will feature a range of different musical groups from the
college and its prep school  The Mount.

They will include the award-winning Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Band,
Stage Band, Jazz Band, Baroque String Ensemble, Show Choir, Chamber Choir
and  Prep School Choir as well as a number of gifted soloists.

In addition, there will be a guest appearance by children from Forefield
Junior School in Crosby who will perform two pieces and take part in a
massed choir item.

According to St Mary’s Head of Music, Andrew Byers, the concert will take
the audience on a musical journey from JS Bach to Hollywood as the young
musicians perform pieces from a wide range of styles and genres.

Highlights will include the Bach Double Violin Concerto, And The Glory Of
The Lord from Handel’s Messiah, the Pirates of the Caribbean Suite and music
by John Williams from the Steven Spielberg blockbuster ET.

Mr Byers commented: “Our Philharmonic concerts have been one of the
highlights of the school calendar for many years and all the young musicians
involved are excited about playing at such a prestigious venue.

“Of course, a lot of hard work goes into preparing for the event, but it’s
always thrilling on the night to see pupils of all ages rise to the occasion
and play and sing well in such a spectacular setting.”

Tickets for the event - prices at £5 each - are available from the
Philharmonic Hall box office on 0151-709 3789 or direct from St Mary’s on
