For four Crosby boys "get on your bike" will have a completely different meaning over the next couple of months. It will remind them of the tremendous feat which lies ahead of them ... a sponsored cycle to Paris!
The boys - Philip Duggan (17), Stephen Gilroy (16), Phil McRae (17) and Michael Shanahan (17) - are all pupils in the lower sixth form at St.Mary's College.
Sponsored by Inmar Contracting Equipment, the boys plan to cycle to Paris - and back again - in an estimated time of just over two weeks, making stops at Stow-on-the-Wold and Windsor, among other places on the way.
With a round trip of about 800 miles, the boys hope to raise as much money as possible for
the British Heart Foundation, which, through progress in heart research, has made important advances in both the diagnosis and treatment of heart problems.
Formerly members of a local cycle touring club, the boys have many miles of cycling behind them, including trips to South Wales and Scotland, but this is by far their longest trip to date.
Although the departure date isn't until July. the lads are already looking for more sponsors. If you would like to sponsor (hem, you should contact Phil McRae on 924 6178.
