Fifteen - year - old St. Mary's College pupil, Michael Downie, has the chance to meet some of Britain's top 01ympic athletes before they leave for Montreal.

Michael, of 17 College Avenue, Crosby, will be travelling to an art gallery on the Mall in London to see his painting of steeplechase runners exhibited. The painting, executed in watercolours, won the 11 to 17 age group in the Observer newspaper Olympic painting competition. The Mali exhibition will open on July 9.

Michael was one of three St. Mary's boys to receive recognition. Fourteen - year - old Peter Formby and 15 -year-old Simon Robertshaw won commendations.
