OCR Transcript:
Four boys from St. Mary's College, returned triumphant to Crosby at the weekend after winning the national' final of the public speaking competition organised by the Knights of St. Columba.
They had already won the North-west regional final for the competition at Wallasey in April. This meant qualification for the London final held at the Picketts Lock entertainment centre.
It is reported, that the Crosby boys, with their entry entitled ‘Home Rule for England," had a comfortable victory over their nearest rivals, the Boscombe Convent from Hampshire. In all, eight teams from the separate regions competed for the title and cup.
The boys, all members of the lower-sixth form, were Vincent Fraser (the main speaker), Ian Kirk (chairman of the group), Christopher Brookes (main proposer) and Paul Cha rn Icy (seconder). Accompanying them to London was English master, Mr. Peter McCoyan.
