Three pupils of St. Mary's College will definitely miss this year's F.A. Cup Final - becusc they will be competing in their own final. Instead of fancy foot-work Stephen Farrell, Mark McDonald and Paul Maddox will be displaying fancy talking in the national finals of the English Speaking Union public-speaking competition at Canterbury on May 6.
All three are members of the victorious St. Mary's team, which last week overcame five other schools in the North-west heat of the competition to earn a place in the May final.
Speaker in the North-west heat, held in Chester, as Mark McDonald, with Stephen Farrell giving the vote of thanks and Paul Maddox acting as chairman. Mark's speech on "An Objective Press" carried the Crosby, school to the final for the third time in its history. Now the wordsome three hope to emulate the team of two years ago which came home with the national title.
