A record-breaking Crosby schoolboy is to compete in the English Schoo(s Athletics Championships next month. He is David Hughes, aged 15, of Lunt Road, Sefton, a pupil at St. Mary's College, Crosby,
David smashed three running records last week - at the Liverpool Catholic Schools Championship on Thursday and at the tougher Merseyside County Championships the following day.
On Thursday he set new records in the 800 metres and the 1500 metres. On Friday he knocked 2.4 seconds off the 1500 metre record. Now he is eligible to enter the English championships on July 8 and 9 in Hendon, when he will compete in the 1500 metres.
David, who took up athletics only three years ago, is a member of Liverpool Harriers. His other interest is golf. He has just finished his 0-level examinations and hopes to gain a place in St. Mary's sixth form.
