OCR TRanscript:
Two Crosby teenagers, both of them schoolboys, have been making news this week.
A sixth form student at St. Mary’s College, Crosby - Paul Joseph Weddick has been awarded his Private Pilot’s Licence at the age of 18.
Paul, of 21 Regent Road, gained his Royal Air Force Cadet Flying Scholarship and attended a special examination course at Biggin Hill before he finally achieved his latest goal. His licence means that he can now fly any single-engine plane, with or without passengers, from any airport.
A member of St. Mary’s Combined Cadet Force for the past five years, Paul holds the rank of flight Sergeant. With many flying hours to his credit, he was thrilled with the news of his latest award – the second this year. At Easter, after flying at Spittlegate, Paul gained his glider pilot licence.
At present studying hard for his “A” levels and a university place, he finds time off from his flying practice at Woodsale Aerodrome to take an enthusiastic part in a local beat group.
