The winner of the Inter Collegiate Challenge Trophy for Public Speaking is Paul Elliott of St. Mary's College., Crosby. Paul was competing on Monday evening in the Liverpool University Catholic Chaplaincy in a competition organised by the Catentan Association (Province Number Four) for Public Speaking.
Paul was chosen after an internal competition in St. Mary's to represent the college, and on Monday he competed against 18 others for the trophy. Competitor' came from as far away as Wrexham and Chester for the evening.
Sixth-former Paul spoke for four minutes on "The Hidden Class - Sixth Formers in Society." and after much hard work by the adjudicators emerged the winner.
Final placings for first and second were awarded on time penalty points. Paul being eight seconds over the four minutes, and the runnner-up being 20 seconds over.
Seventeen-year-old Paul is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs P. Elliott. of 35 Brook Road West, Waterloo.
